Classes at WAXON Studio

FAQs

  • In general, non-wax dye class pricing (Shibori, Ice Dye, Tie-Dye) base price is $40/pp. That stays at $40 if you bring your own item* to dye and take it home with you to wash (we have washing instructions for you, it's easy). Ice dyeing will require you to bring in a container to take home in. If you show up for an ice dye class without a container, you automatically are choosing to pay us to wash & dry it for you, since you can’t take it home in a bag or in your hands.

$45/pp if we provide the washing & drying service (adds $5/item).

*We have a menu of dyeable items available seasonally, but if there’s something you’d like to bring, make sure it’s 100% plant fibers. Additional items add $5+/ea to dye, in addition to the cost of the item (from $5+).

Batik class is $90 straight up, which includes 1 dyeable item that we provide. We process the batik for you. Extra charges may incur:

-if you choose a pricier blank

-want to add additional layers of wax/dye (must be scheduled with us for 48+ hours after your initial class)

-go over your allotted 120 minutes of class time.

  • Our beginner dyeing classes are designed to take an hour. Batik is a two hour class. We do allow extra time if you would like extra help, have more questions, or want to do additional projects, but we do charge additional fees for that time.

  • Each class takes you through the process of making one item. Our focus is process rather than product— you will make a complete project, and be taught each step of the dye technique. Our one-hour classes are not intended to be used to produce piles of projects.

    1. Check your tag, and make sure it’s made from 100% dyeable fibers.

    2. Make sure your item is pre-washed, and dried without fabric softeners/perfumes. We want those fibers to be as naked as possible!

    3. Please don’t bring anything thicker than a standard t-shirt. Thicker items like hoodies, pants, canvas jackets, towels, etc. take way more dye and time, and we prefer to do class with regular thickness items.

  • Tie dye, Ice dye, and Shibori classes:

    • washout is $5/per item, and includes 2 wash cycles to set the dyes, plus a dry & fold.

    • mailing your items home to you in case you won’t be here to pick them up

    • $5-10 per extra item dyed in class (your class fee covers one item)

    Batik class:

    • upgrade prices to fancier blanks (your class includes a wall hanging, bandana, t-shirt, or set of 5 prayer flags)

    • upgrade to multiple immersion dye baths for multiple projects (text us for specifics)

    • mailing your items home to you in case you won’t be here to pick them up

  • We have a rotating seasonal menu with items ranging from $5 to $20, from garments & accessories to home goods and decor. Here’s an example!

  • You’ll love how easy it is to use our class scheduler— when you sign up for your date/time, you’ll get an email. The email has direction, instructions, and links to reschedule/cancel should you need them.

We do not offer refunds for no-shows, and we have a 24-hour cancelation policy.

  • For our one-hour classes, children 5-6 years old who can stand and pay attention for 60 minutes are welcome to attend! We have step-stools, small gloves, and small bottles for small tie-dyers.

For batik, please no children under 10 years old. Hot wax can be splashy and dangerous.

  • For batik, nothing! We provide everything you need for batik class.

For ice dye, tie dye, and Shibori, you can bring something to dye or choose from our menu of dyeables (changes seasonally).

We provide all dye powders, gloves, aprons, auxiliary chemicals, and all tools & materials needed to create the patterns we teach.

  • If you are taking your ice dyes home with you to wash after class, you need to bring your own containers. They should be strong and lidded, and we like clear ones so we can see the colors develop.

The size of the container should more or less match the size of the item you’re dyeing— small containers for small items, larger containers for bigger items. Here’s our favorites!

  • If you’ve already taken our beginner level class and would like to try something more advanced or technical, please contact us and we’ll make a game plan together!

  • Yes! We want you to love dyeing as much as we do, so in addition to classes, we also sell blanks, dye powders, soda ash, batik tools, and (sometimes!) wax.
