Our absolute favorite thing in the world. Online classes

Batik Online 2-Session Class

Join me in my studio for two evenings of the basics of batik. In the 1st class, I’ll give an overview of the tools & materials needed for this type of batik, discuss the principles of applying beeswax to cloth, demonstrate Indonesian tjanting tools, Malaysian metal stamps, Indian woodblock stamps, and show how to make an immersion dye bath w/ fiber reactive dyes. For the 2nd class, we’ll examine a dried piece to which we'll add a 2nd layer of wax & dye, and have a thorough demonstration of removing wax using the boil-out method. Plenty of time for Q&A, plus a multipage .pdf with shopable links for setting up your own batik station at home!

Now enrolling for Feb. & April 2024.

Intro to Ice Dyeing Online

With the magic of applying dry dye powders over ice, results are ethereal, intricate, and never the same twice. As the colors split and fissure due to the slowly melting water, your fabric takes on watercolor-like effects that can be subtle or psychedelic!
